Wolves 'will look at' £34m Jimenez replacement at Molineux

Bruno Lage takes charge of a Premier League game for Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers could sign a ‘like-for-like’ Raul Jimenez replacement if they bring Armando Broja to the club, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a promising maiden Premier League campaign on loan at Southampton from parent club Chelsea and could be on the market once again over the summer.

What is the latest news involving Broja?

Broja started the season in eye-catching form, registering nine goals and one assist in his opening 27 appearances across all competitions, attracting the attention of several sides.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United, Everton and Wolves joined the Saints in the race for the Albania international’s signature during the January transfer window.

However, despite the extensive interest in his services, Broja remained on loan at St. Mary’s Stadium for the rest of the current campaign, although his form has dipped significantly of late.

The 6 foot 3 ace, who is valued at £34m by the CIES Football Observatory, has failed to find the back of the net in his last 11 outings but that does not appear to have dissuaded his potential suitors from weighing up a move.

A recent report from The Sun claims West Ham, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have entered the running for Broja’s services as they are all in need of attacking reinforcements.

What has Crook said about Broja?

Crook believes the in-demand youngster could be a natural heir to Jimenez at Molineux if Bruno Lage’s charges decide to revive their interest when the market reopens for business.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think if Southampton can’t sign Armando Broja, he might be available on loan; that would be a like-for-like replacement.

“So, I’m sure they will be looking at what is available in terms of loans. Again, like a lot of clubs, they are going to have to be quite clever with the way that they do their business, but I’m sure there will be a curveball or two as well.”

Do Wolves need to replace Jimenez?

Throughout 2019/20, Jimenez was in fine form, bagging 27 goals and laying on a further 10 assists in 55 outings, but a fractured skull in November 2020 put a stop to his dominant displays.

What shirt number does Adama Traore wear for Wolves?

The Mexico international is still Wolves’ joint-top scorer this term, but his meagre tally of six strikes reflects the unfortunate downturn he has experienced in recent times.

At 11 years his junior, Broja could be the ideal candidate to take over the reins from Jimenez next term, providing fresh impetus to what has been a rather blunt Wolves attack this term.
