Sebastian Vettel offered Formula E opportunity

DS Techeetah boss Thomas Chevaucher has offered Sebastian Vettel the opportunity to drive a Formula E car in the future.

Vettel’s contract at Aston Martin comes to an end at the conclusion of the 2022 season and there is speculation over whether the four-time world champion will remain in Formula 1.

Naturally, he wants to be competing at the front in whatever series he is in but with the Aston off of the pace of the front-runners, Vettel will have to wait at least another year to be challenging for a fifth world crown – though he surely knew what he had signed up for when joining the project at the Silverstone-based team.

Time will tell what he does ultimately, then, as we head through this season but given his strong environmental awareness, the boss of one of the top Formula E teams has gone on record to say he’d like to offer Vettel an opportunity to at least try one of his cars out.

“Sebastian is very interested in environmental protection and has climate change in mind, just like we do in Formula E,” said Chevaucher.

“We do not know to what extent he is interested in continuing his career in Formula E, but we would like to give him the opportunity to try out a CO2-neutral racing car.”

Formula E is helping lead the charge for more environmentally-friendly cars and motorsport, and is growing in popularity all the time too, with the calendar growing to encompass venues all over the globe.

The field has a host of former F1 drivers on it like Jean-Eric Vergne, Pascal Wehrlein, Stoffel Vandoorne and Antonio Giovinazzi as well, whilst Vettel potentially joining would be a real coup for the series.

Of course, this is not to say that we’re suddenly going to see Seb lining up on the Formula E grid once he hangs up his F1 gloves but there’s clearly interest from the series in offering Vettel a chance and, at the end of the day, he is a racing driver so why wouldn’t he be intrigued in something different along the line!
