Chelsea target Ivan Perisic is one of the most "underrated" players in Europe right now, claims journalist Dean Jones.

The Inter Milan winger has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and Jones thinks he would be ideal for Thomas Tuchel's side.

What is the latest news involving Perisic?

According to 90min, Perisic has held talks with Chelsea over a potential summer move.

The Blues, of course, are unable to do any business at the moment after owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government, but it looks like they still have their targets.

Once Chelsea are able to operate normally again, they could sign Perisic for nothing, with the 33-year-old out of contract next month.

Inter, however, would like to keep him at the San Siro. Director Beppe Marotta recently told DAZN (via Football Italia): "We will sit around a table and together make the best decision. As far as we are concerned, we certainly want to continue with him."

What has Jones said about Perisic to Chelsea?

Jones has been impressed with what he has seen from Perisic this season and thinks he could be perfect for Chelsea.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: "Perisic has had an unbelievable season at Inter Milan. I'd probably go as far to say he's been one of the most underrated players in Europe this season.

"He would definitely improve the Chelsea frontline, would definitely work under Tuchel. I think he's an ideal person to be pursuing at this point, and I think they'll be looking to move on some people they've currently got in the frontline."

Should Chelsea sign Perisic this summer?

If they can, then it is probably a bit of a no-brainer, really. Perisic, who Fabio Capello has praised for doing "wonderful things", is a player who could bring a lot to this Chelsea team.

He is very versatile, spending most of this season at left wing-back, a position the Blues have had a problem with following Ben Chilwell's ACL injury.

The 113-cap Croatia international is also a creative outlet, making 1.6 key passes and one cross per league game this term, which puts him in the top three for those categories in Inter's squad (via WhoScored).

Ultimately, either as a wing-back or winger, Perisic could be a really good option for Tuchel. It is a transfer that would make a lot of sense for the west London club and one that is quite appealing given that he will be available on a free.
