Newcastle United would "love" to bring Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to St James' Park this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old is being linked with a move to the Tyneside club, who are trying to build a British core, according to Jones.

What is the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

As per The Telegraph, Newcastle are planning to make a bid for Calvert-Lewin in the upcoming transfer window.

Currently, manager Eddie Howe has Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Dwight Gayle to call upon, but it appears that he wants more firepower going into next season.

Calvert-Lewin has had a difficult 2021/22 campaign, missing a large part of it because of injury, but still looks like he could provide the above.

Last term, when fully fit, the Englishman was able to score 21 goals in all competitions, so it is no surprise that he is attracting interest.

What has Jones said about Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle would love to add Calvert-Lewin to their squad as they look to build a British core.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "I mean, it's an ideal one for them to look at. Calvert-Lewin's somebody they like.

"They want to have a British core to them if they possibly can; they want to have players that have got Premier League pedigree. And Calvert-Lewin, as a young player on the fringes of the England side, is somebody they would love to get in."

Would Calvert-Lewin be a good signing for Newcastle?

Yes. Again, while he has had his struggles this season, Calvert-Lewin has proven that he can be a very effective centre-forward at this level, with his all-round game being impressive.

Looking at some of his stats from last term, he was a handful for defenders. According to WhoScored, the £37.8m-rated England international won 4.7 aerial duels per league game, the highest average in Everton's squad.

He could bring a real aerial threat to St James' Park if Newcastle manage to land him this summer.

Calvert-Lewin is not the only striker who the Magpies seem to be looking at, however, as The Telegraph has also claimed that they are interested in former player Ivan Toney and Reims youngster Hugo Ekitike.

The above means that Howe is almost certain to bring in at least one new No.9 for the 2022/23 campaign in a development that would surely please supporters.
