Footage of Kyler Gordon should be getting Chicago Bears fans rather excited ahead of the 2022 NFL season.

The Chicago Bears were statistically something of an inconsistency when it came to passing defence in the league last year, giving up just 3,257 yards through the air last year which was the 3rd fewest in the league.

At the same time though, they gave up 31 passing touchdowns, which was joint-3rd most in the league. That combined with their poor ground defence, which gave up 2,127 yards, which ranked in the bottom ten in the league, meant that the Bears coils only muster a 6-11 record.

So it’s understandable why the Bears would feel the need to address their defence heavily in the early rounds of the draft, using their first two picks in the second round (having given up their first round pick to draft Justin Fields last year), on cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker.

Coming with a pedigree

Gordon, coming out of the University of Washington, certainly strikes as someone who can help make a difference to the Bears secondary, having racked up 97 total tackles, 4 of which were for loss, 2 interceptions and 12 pass deflections during his time with the Huskies, which could help them take that next step into being contenders in the NFC North:

And he’s already showing what he can do during preseason work with the Bears players.

Making an early impression

Footage was posted on the Bears’ Twitter page that showed him making a rather impressive interception during workout at the Bears practice facility, in which he showed incredible speed to keep up with his opposite number and then great hands to turn it into an interception and head the other way:

With just 8 interceptions last year, the Bears really could do with some more explosive plays to help turn games around, and if Gordon can pull off a few more of these when it matters, then the Bears could be well on their way to being a team for others to fear.
