Former UFC star Alistair Overeem will make his professional wrestling debut for a brand new promotion in England next month.

Ever since leaving the UFC following his defeat to Alexander Volkov last year, many have been wondering what would be next for Alistair Overeem. The Dutchman is widely considered to be one of the best heavyweights in the history of combat sports based on his incredible resume across the last few decades.

From K-1 and Strikeforce to DREAM and PRIDE, Overeem was the kind of fighter who was always up for a challenge no matter what direction it came from.

Now, it appears as if the 42-year-old will take on an entirely next venture altogether as he prepares to compete for pro wrestling company Wrestling Entertainment Series.

It comes around nine months after Overeem spoke with Ariel Helwani about the prospect of making the jump, during which he made it clear that he isn’t exactly the world’s biggest fan of the industry.

Alas, here we are, just a few weeks away from him taking on Adam Scherr - formerly known as WWE universal champion Braun Strowman.

The show will take place at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham on June 4 with a whole host of other notable ex-WWE superstars being on the card.

Will Overeem fight again?

Back in June 2021, it was announced that Overeem had signed a multi-fight deal with kickboxing promotion Glory. It was rumoured that he’d be going toe-to-toe with the great Rico Verhoeven and it was eventually confirmed to be going down in late October, only for an injury to rule Overeem out of the bout.

There’s been no official announcement as of yet regarding what this pro wrestling move means for his return to kickboxing but in all likelihood, the veteran is still going to be interested in getting back into the mix in whatever format it may be.

Overeem is a fighter at heart and even in his last couple of UFC performances, he proved that he’s still got what it takes to have some success at the elite level.

The priority for the next couple of weeks, however, will be on trying to mow down The Monster Among Men.
