The Last of Us Remake Rumoured to launch this Christmas

The Last of Us Remake might allegedly release sometime during the holiday season this year, well that’s if well-known journalist Jeff Grubb is to be believed.

Naughty Dog’s PS 3 era hit The Last of Us is somewhat of a cult classic and does a great job both narrative and gameplay-wise. The game was later remastered for PS4 in 2014 to better take advantage of PS4’s features.

Leaks and rumours around The Last of Us remake aren’t new at this point and many leakers and tipsters seem to suggest that the remake is much closer than expected. While the remake still hasn’t been officially announced by Sony as of now, news of The Last of Us getting a remake started last year via a Bloomberg report from Jason Schreier.

The remake’s development is now being headed by series creator Naughty Dog, which is said to have taken charge of the project after the completion of The Last of Us Part 2.

Now, in the latest episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast Jeff Grubb claimed that The Last of Us Remake will be dropping this Christmas.

Jeff Grubb reveals that The Last of Us Remake Might Launch this Christmas

Earlier in January this year, notable online tipster Tom Henderson stated that he had heard from “multiple people” that The Last of Us Remake is slated to launch in the latter half of 2022.

Now, Jeff Grubb seems to back that information up in a recent YouTube talk show. On the latest episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast, GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb while talking about the remake stated, “I keep hearing that’s coming out this year. The Last of Us remake this holiday.” He later added: “I’m pretty confident about that too.”

Jeff also said: “You’ve got to keep in mind that The Last of Us: Part 2 came out a while ago, and there’s people at that studio who were looking around for something to do. It’s a pretty efficient and well-oiled machine over there at Naughty Dog, and they don’t have to do too much because that’s the whole point – it’s a game they can update really quickly.”

The Last of Us Remake Might Launch in 2022

While Jeff didn’t reveal what sources he is getting this information from, he seemed convinced about the timeline. Many things seem to point at a 2022 launch window. Last month, Naughty Dog’s QA tester had added an ‘unannounced remake project’ on their LinkedIn profile, leading to many speculating that it was The Last of Us Remake.

According to Corey Hong‘s online résumé, the QA tester has worked at Naughty Dog studio since 2019, doing QA work on The Last of Us Part 2, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, and two unannounced projects, one a remake and the other a multiplayer title.

However, take all of this with a pinch of salt as nothing has been confirmed by either Sony or Naughty Dog. But seeing all the leaks and rumours an official announcement doesn’t seem too far off.
