Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly fits the bill for Manchester United, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 30-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with O'Rourke hailing him as a "brilliant defender".

What is the latest news involving Koulibaly?

As per Area Napoli, Koulibaly's agent Fali Ramadani is in contact with United, who could decide to make a move for the Senegalese star this summer.

However, they could face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, as the same outlet states that Ramadani is also in discussions with the west London club over his client, who has been hailed as an "extraordinary" player.

£40.5m-rated Koulibaly continues to be one of Napoli's most important players, making over 30 appearances for the Italian side this season.

He arrived at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium from Genk back in 2014 and has just over a year left on his contract.

What has O'Rourke said about Koulibaly to United?

Despite Koulibaly not getting any younger, O'Rourke thinks he is the kind of defender United and other top clubs should be looking at.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "Koulibaly is again being linked with England. He's been linked with a move to the Premier League for such a long time, but it's never happened. Napoli have always driven a hard bargain for Koulibaly, but yeah, brilliant defender.

"I think if he does become available in the market, I think clubs that are looking to strengthen their centre-back options, Koulibaly, although not getting any younger, he's still a top-class operator. For Manchester United, if they do want a left-sided centre-back, he would fit the bill."

Should United sign Koulibaly this summer?

United have had problems at the back this season, with Raphael Varane picking up injuries and Harry Maguire's form dipping dramatically.

"It's been a tough season, for the team and for Harry, he's not played well enough," former United captain Roy Keane said on Sky Sports (via MailOnline) last month.

Considering the above, United should sign someone like Koulibaly if he really is available, which does look to be the case given his contract situation.

The 57-cap Senegal international is a technical and solid defender, with WhoScored listing passing and blocking the ball as two of his strengths.

Koulibaly is, of course, a very experienced centre-half, too. He has played over 200 times in Serie A and has also made 82 appearances in Europe.

If Erik ten Hag wants to take United back into the top four, then Koulibaly is definitely the kind of signing the Dutchman should be looking to make this summer.
