West Ham United could pull off a ‘real smart move’ by bringing Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis to the club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Hammers have been linked with the highly-rated 24-year-old as manager David Moyes looks to finally address the lack of options at his disposal in the final third of the pitch.

What is the latest news involving West Ham?

According to The Mirror, West Ham are plotting a £20 million swoop for Dennis when the market reopens for business next month.

It’s claimed that the capital club’s hierarchy, GSBK, are keen to back Moyes financially after another successful season under the Scottish tactician’s tutelage.

And Dennis is likely to be available after catching the eye at Vicarage Road, while his current employers are set to compete in the Championship next term following their relegation from the top-flight.

The Nigeria international still has four years left on his contract but prising him away from Watford is not expected to be a difficult or expensive task.

West Ham could face competition for Dennis’ signature, though, with the newly-rich Newcastle United also credited with an interest in the attacker.

What has O’Rourke said about Dennis?

O’Rourke believes the price tag mentioned for Dennis would make him ‘relatively cheap’ and that his arrival at the London Stadium would add ‘versatility’ to Moyes’ setup.

In an exclusive interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “He can play as a number nine; he can play out wide as well.

“So, he adds versatility to David Moyes’ squad, and I think if you could land him for a fee of £20 million, it would be relatively cheap in the current market. So, this one, for me, looks a real smart move if West Ham do decide to push ahead for the Nigerian.”

Would Dennis be a good signing?

Former Watford manager Claudio Ranieri lauded Dennis as ‘a very talented player’ back in November, and it’s easy to understand why.

In 33 Premier League appearances this season, the African ace has registered 10 goals and six assists, all for a side that has won just six top-flight games throughout 2021/22.

Placing Dennis in a side with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma behind him would likely result in an even more impressive outfit.

Therefore, Moyes could secure himself a bargain if he manages to lure Dennis to West Ham, adding some much-needed cover and competition for Michail Antonio.
