John Cena has shared his desire to return to WWE, stating that he’s ‘been gone too long’ from the company.

Since transitioning into Hollywood, the 45-year-old has enjoyed successful roles in the Fast & Furious franchise, as the lead in Marvel’s Peacemaker and has another three big feature films set to be released before the end of 2022.

His success in Hollywood has meant that Cena’s WWE appearances have gotten less and less frequent, even missing WrestleMania last year. In fact, we haven’t seen the sixteen-time world champion on WWE TV since his feud with Roman Reigns last summer that culminated in a defeat to The Tribal Chief at SummerSlam.

However, when asked whilst speaking to Adam Glyn of Adam’s Apple, when we might see him in WWE again, Cena revealed that he hopes to return to the company soon after being gong too long. Especially given that his twentieth anniversary is on the horizon and ready to be celebrated.

Oh soon. I know in WWE years I turn 20 pretty soon, so that’s a pretty big thing. And then from a pretty storied class of folks. Batista, Randy Orton, Brock [Lesnar], kinda all turned 20 this year, so I’m aware that that’s coming around the corner and who knows? But it’s one of those hard truths to bear, there’s a lot of cool stuff going on and I don’t want to say no to any of these opportunities that are on my doorstep. So, I don’t know when I’ll be back, but hopefully it’s soon. I’ve been gone for too long.

During the interview Cena also praised the WWE fans for making him the star he is today and how it’s helped he cope with any failure he’s faced while moving into the acting world.

“Just be okay with failing,” said Cena. “This quote-on-quote transition has taken me what, 15 years now? So from The Marine on to now, a lot of failure in there. You guys have watched. Don’t be afraid to fail and it’s okay to have a great support system around you, certainly the WWE audience. I’ve said on multiple occasions and I’ll keep saying it until I have the chance, they made me into the man I am today.”

Cena has recently been linked with a return at next year’s WrestleMania, to possibly face Theory. The pair have traded blows across social media and it’s sparked speculation that we may see a big match between the pair at next year’s showpiece, which is taking place in LA.
