Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is 'fully deserving' of a new long-term deal after a hugely successful first season at the Parkhead helm, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Postecoglou was handed a 12-month rolling contract when he was appointed as the Bhoys' manager last summer, but he could be handed fresh terms as a reward for his efforts since heading to Glasgow.

What's the latest news involving Postecoglou?

Postecoglou has led Celtic to a season to remember, with them completing the domestic double by getting their hands on the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish League Cup.

Finishing at the top flight's summit has ensured the Bhoys will return to the Champions League group stage next term and that money-spinning prize has led to the hierarchy turning their attentions towards offering Postecoglou a reward.

According to the Daily Record, the 56-year-old is set to be presented with a bumper new contract in order to extend his stay at Parkhead.

The report suggests the Celtic board are impressed with the progress made and know Postecoglou, who has won 42 of his 60 games in charge, has been central to that.

It has been claimed that the hierarchy want to extend the Greece-born boss' deal until the summer of 2025.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Postecoglou?

O'Rourke understands that handing Postecoglou a lengthy contract extension would result in the hierarchy moving away from their previous plans.

However, the journalist feels Celtic owner Dermot Desmond - who has been urged to get a new long-term deal on the table by former Bhoys striker Charlie Nicholas - should take the plunge as a result of the success since the alteration in the dugout.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Celtic have, over the last few seasons, just done a 12-month rolling contract. It's worked before with the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

"It will be interesting to see if they do change their stance and Postecoglou would be fully deserving of a long-term contract.

"He's come in and probably exceeded the expectations of most Celtic fans. He's won the League Cup and the league after that massive gap that there was between Celtic and Rangers last year. He's got them back into the Champions League as well."

What has Postecoglou said about a new contract?

Postecoglou has insisted that he is happy at Celtic but will not necessarily rush into signing on the dotted line.

The Greek-Australian has also claimed supporters 'shouldn't fret' over his contract situation despite him currently being on precarious terms.

Postecoglou has admitted to looking at who his side could face in the Champions League next season, so it is clear that he sees his future at Parkhead.
