John Morrison: Ex-WWE star debuts in AEW as Johnny Elite

AEW was full of surprises as joker cards were revealed in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Samoa Joe took to the ring to take on the highly anticipated Joker Card in what was the opening contest on Dynamite.

Joe awaited his opponent, which was revealed to be former WWE superstar John Morrison.

Morrison who now is going by the name Johnny Elite took to the ring to battle the ROH World Television Champion.

Elite would come close and almost picked up the victory on Joe but a failed Starship Pain attempt from Elite allowed Joe to capitalise and drop him with the Muscle Buster to pick up the victory.

Elite was released from WWE in November 2021 and the AEW fans warmed up to him and his new name very quickly.

Elite has gone by various names, from Johnny IMPACT in his IMPACT Wrestling days to Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground. It is unknown whether this will be just a one appearance cameo or if Elite is well and truly ALL ELITE.

Samoa Joe will advance to the semi-finals where he will collide with the Undisputed Elite’s Kyle O’Reilly, and the winner of that will face off with Adam Cole at AEW’s Double Or Nothing PPV taking place on the 29th of May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

You can watch AEW internationally on FITE TV.
