Liverpool: Fan goes viral for impression of Martin Tyler’s commentary for Minamino’s goal

Fan’s video of Martin Tyler’s commentary for Minamino’s goal vs Southampton has gone viral

Martin Tyler is, and forever will be, a legend of the Premier League era.

The voice of so many golden moments over the past three decades, it’ll be a shame when Tyler does eventually hang up the microphone.

At 76, though, it’s fair to assume that Tyler is now in the winter of his incredible career and it’s genuinely sad to see some of the criticism (some of which has been way over the top) that’s been directed his way over the past few seasons.

That said, it’s easy to understand why Liverpool fans were a little irked by Sky Sports’ lead commentator during the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton this week.

Takumi Minamino fired home an equalising goal for Liverpool, who needed to win the game to stand any realistic chance of pipping Manchester City to the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

City would have been crowned champions on Tuesday night had Southampton won and Liverpool went 1-0 down in the 13th minute through Nathan Redmond.

Those who were expecting more of a passionate reaction from Tyler when Minamino equalised and then Joel Matip netted the winner in the second half were left sorely disappointed.

The difference between Tyler’s commentary and that of Peter Drury was stark.

And one fan has gone viral after uploading a video to TikTok pretending to Tyler when Minamino’s goal went in.

We all love Tyler, but it’s hard not to laugh!

Let’s check out some of the best reaction:

Will Martin Tyler have another ‘Agueroooooo!’ moment this weekend?

It’s unclear where Tyler will be for Sky Sports for the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday.

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium – scene of arguably his most famous line of commentary from the final day of the 2011-12 campaign – is his most likely destination.

City will be crowned champions of England for the fourth time in five seasons if they defeat Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

But there’s still a chance – an 18 per cent chance, according to one study – that Liverpool will be the ones lifting the Premier League trophy at Anfield come Sunday evening.

Perhaps Tyler’s saving his next ‘Aguerooooooo!’ moment for this weekend.
