The Formula 1 season clicks back into gear this weekend as the roadshow heads to sunny Spain. The Circuit de Catalunya awaits the teams and drivers as the title race begins to really heat up.Red Bull seem to have found some reliability at last and Max Verstappen is slowly cutting away at the lead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.Verstappen is yet to finish any lower than first in a race he has finished this season and, should that form continue in Barcelona and beyond, he could be back on top of the standings in next to no time. However, while Verstappen and Leclerc's battle is already proving to be quite the tussle, you can be sure that the Spanish fans will be rocking up to see one man and one man only. While Carlos Sainz will be showered with some love, anything Fernando Alonso does this weekend will be greeted with raucous cheers and adoration. As one of the all-time greats of the sport, Alonso always arrives in his home country amid a storm of fanfare and joy.Fernando AlonsoBAHRAIN, BAHRAIN - MARCH 11: Fernando Alonso of Spain and Alpine F1 talks in the Drivers Press Conference during Day Two of F1 Testing at Bahrain International Circuit on March 11, 2022 in Bahrain, Bahrain. He’s looked competitive and said it’s his best start in 10 years but misfortune at the likes of Imola and Australia and a penalty in Miami leave him well down the standings. It is a far-cry from 2011 when, sat behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Alonso produced one of the best starts you could ever hope to see.Taking advantage of the long-run down into turn one at the Barcelona circuit, Alonso instinctively bobbed and weaved before leap-frogging the two Red Bulls to dive down the inside. It was a game of mere inches but Alonso held his nerve to pull off the superb double-overtake which you can see in the clip below:

Brilliant - that onboard footage is something else.

Fast forward 11 years and Alonso will be desperate for a change in fortunes to kick-start his spluttering season.
