Eddie Hearn doesn't believe Tyson Fury will stay retired

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has questioned why Tyson Fury has been given another year to confirm or deny his retirement.

Ever since his win over Dillian Whyte last month, Tyson Fury has been adamant that he’s going to stick to his word and walk away from professional boxing. The undefeated heavyweight holds The Ring and WBC titles with the latter’s president Mauricio Sulaiman recently confirming that he has up to one year before he’d have to defend it in a mandatory bout.

The fact that Fury hasn’t come out and handed the belts over seems to be what’s leading to all of these questions, considering how determined he was to reiterate his desire to ride off into the sunset.

Everyone knows there are still some big fights out there for him but accomplishment wise, he’s already up there in the top 10 heavyweight rankings of all-time.

Still, not scratching that itch can be hard, with Eddie Hearn noting in a recent interview that he doesn’t consider Fury to be retired.

“I don’t know why he needs time, he’s retired. But no, look, we all know he’s not retiring, he won’t vacate the belt, and I hope he faces the winner of Joshua vs Usyk. I think that’s a tremendous fight for his career.”

Hearn, unsurprisingly, has been rejecting the idea that Fury would actually retire ever since he first made the announcement.

Who could Fury face?

The proposal made by Eddie in the above quote is probably going to end up being the most popular, even if it doesn’t come to fruition.

An undisputed heavyweight champion is something fans have been waiting a long time for and once we’ve made it past Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2, we’ll be one step closer to getting it.

If ‘The Gypsy King’ truly wants to make history then attempting to get the rest of the gold from one of those two men is the way to go about it.

Alternatively, and somewhat bizarrely, a meeting with UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a mixed rules match may be on the table – especially given the money that could be made.
