Wolverhampton Wanderers target Hirving Lozano ‘can really amaze you on his day’, according to Italian football expert Conor Clancy.

The 26-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and could finally arrive over the summer after enduring an underwhelming campaign with Napoli.

What is the latest news involving Lozano?

According to Italian outlet Napoli Today, Lozano’s future with the Serie A giants is far from certain, with long-term admirers Wolves continuing to keep close tabs of his situation.

Despite having just over two years left to run on his current contract, the reports states that the Azzurri may decide to cut ties with the Mexico international ahead of next season.

Lozano arrived at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium with an enviable reputation back in August 2019 after completing a £36 million switch from PSV Eindhoven.

However, things have not gone to plan for the versatile ace. In 114 appearances across all competitions for Napoli, he has registered just 26 goals and 13 assists.

Former Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso claimed the speed of Lozano is ‘crazy’ during his short stay at the club, but the attacker is yet to produce his best form on a consistent basis in Italy.

While Clancy admits Lozano’s talent can dazzle on occasion, he always claims that he will ‘frustrate’ onlookers and that he is ‘not someone to build a project around’.

He told GiveMeSport: “Lozano, he's what you expect from a number 10. He's small, he can create, he can really amaze you on his day, but his days are too few and far between.

“He'll frustrate you; he'll have moments of brilliance, but he's not someone to build a project around, I would say.”

Is Lozano worth taking a risk on?

Napoli Today’s report claims that Lozano would cost any potential suitor around €30m (£25.5m), meaning the Neapolitan outfit would incur a significant loss.

And for that price, Wolves’ hierarchy may be tempted to take a gamble on the talented if frustrating forward.

As per FBref, Lozano has ranked in the 88^th percentile for touches in the attacking penalty area, 86^th for progressive carries and 86^th for total shots amongst players in his position over the last year.

But perhaps most intriguing of all is that he’s also ranked in the 89^th percentile for non-penalty expected goals, indicating he has the potential to become a regular scorer once again.

If Bruno Lage can turn Lozano into the clinical finisher he once was at PSV, then Wolves could be welcoming a top-level attacker to Molineux this summer.
