Daniel Ricciardo eyeing McLaren progress at Spanish Grand Prix

McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo has said that he is hopeful the team will see progress made with their car this weekend at the Spanish GP.

The MCL36 has certainly got potential this season with it improving quickly after a tough weekend in Bahrain at the first race weekend of the year.

However, Miami proved difficult for the team and so it is clear that they are still looking at ways to keep improving the car and making it as competitive as possible.

Obviously, Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris will be looking forward to seeing what changes the updates the team has brung this weekend make in terms of performance, and Ricciardo had this to say to the gathered press here in Barcelona on Friday morning before a wheel was turned:

“I mean obviously we are expecting it to go a little bit quicker but it’s all relative.

“I’ll be stoked if it’s a second but we’ll see today and how much it changes the order, pretty much the whole field is bringing upgrades and I guess everyone is going to trend in the same direction.”

In FP1, the McLaren was inside the top 10 with Norris in seventh and Ricciardo in ninth, and that at least gives them a half-decent building block on which to try and achieve some success this season.

As Ricciardo mentions, however, nearly every team has brought upgrades to the table this weekend and so time will only tell as to who truly has the edge come qualifying on Saturday and then the race on Sunday.

McLaren will hope, though, that points at least are in the offing this weekend in Barcelona.
