Leeds: £18m Orta target now 'keen' on Elland Road move

Jesse Marsch celebrates with the Leeds United fans

Leeds United will sign Red Bull Salzburg star Brenden Aaronson if they maintain their Premier League status as he is ‘keen to come’ to Elland Road, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson.

The Whites are in serious danger of being relegated to the Championship and their final day trip to Brentford will prove crucial in their pursuit of Aaronson.

What’s the latest news involving Aaronson?

According to reports, Leeds are ‘very likely’ to sign Aaronson and an offer worth £25million is ready to be lodged.

It comes after the Whites failed with £15million and £20million proposals during the January transfer window, suggesting that director of football Victor Orta has been leading the pursuit.

That is because there has been a managerial change at Elland Road since then, with Jesse Marsch replacing Marcelo Bielsa at the helm.

Despite that, Leeds’ interest has not wavered, with chairman Andrea Radrizzani and Orta believing Marsch’s appointment has bolstered their chances of getting the deal over the line.

Marsch selected Aaronson 25 times during his time in charge of Red Bull Salzburg, with the creative midfielder notching seven goals and five assists in the process.

What has David Anderson said about Aaronson?

Anderson is certain that Leeds will swoop for Aaronson if they succeed staving off relegation to the Championship.

The journalist understands the American is keen to be reunited with Marsch at Elland Road.

Anderson told GIVEMESPORT: “If they survive, then they can get Aaronson. That deal was, obviously, quite well progressed in January, but Salzburg were adamant that they didn’t want to sell him at that moment. Don’t forget that they had that big Champions League game against Bayern Munich.

“This summer is the time when that deal can be done. He’s keen to come and, of course, you’ve now got the Marsch connection as well.”

Would Aaronson be a good signing for Leeds?

Aaronson has been given the nickname ‘the Medford Messi’ and being compared to one of the world’s greatest players shows just how highly he is rated.

The 21-year-old, who is valued at £18million by Transfermarkt, has shown he is capable of being a serious threat in the opposition’s penalty area.

During the early stages of his senior career, Aaronson has chalked up more than 40 goal contributions.

He has also excelled on the international scene, with him finding the back of the net five times and registering a further four assists in 18 United States outings.
