After months of speculation, Arsenal’s star forward Vivianne Miedema has signed a contract extension with the club, but that didn’t stop Katie McCabe’s partner Ruesha Littlehohn from trolling the Dutch international. The exact length of Miedema’s extension remains undisclosed, though it is believed to be for one year, plus the option of a further year. The Dutch star’s original contract was set to expire at the end of June, with the likes of Lyon and PSG reportedly both keen to acquire her services. Yet, the 25-year-old has decided to stay put in North London, much to the delight of Gunners fans.

Miedema decides to stay 

Arsenal posted a statement on their website, which read: “We are delighted to announce that Vivianne Miedema has signed a new deal with the club.

“Vivianne joined us from Bayern Munich in 2017 and has since scored 117 goals in just 144 appearances, including 23 in 39 appearances in the recent 2021/22 season.

“She was part of the Arsenal side that won the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in the 2018/19 season, and also helped us to lift the FA Women's Continental Tyres League Cup in the 2017/18 campaign.

Miedema is the all-time top-scorer in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and topped the league goalscoring charts in both the 2018/19 season and in  2019/20.

Commenting on her decision to stay at Arsenal, Miedema said: ​​“I think the most beautiful thing about the game is building something with a team and with people around you that you really want to be around.

“I do feel like I have got that at Arsenal. I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment. And that’s what I obviously hope to achieve with Arsenal.”

Miedema trolled by McCabe’s partner

After Miedema posted a video revealing her contract extension on her Twitter, Arsenal fans were quick to share their excitement. 

However, some decided to jokingly mock the forward, including Littejohn, who plays as a striker for Women’s Super League side Aston Villa. 

The 31-year-old wrote: “Well that’s the trophy cabinet empty for another year.” 

Littlejohn is the partner of Miedema’s teammate, Katie McCabe, which makes her comments even more savage. 

Whilst it seems as though her reply was meant in jest, it is true that Arsenal have failed to win a trophy since 2019.

Regardless, fans found Littejohn’s comments hilarious, and some of the replies were hilarious. 

One wrote: “Tweet of the year.” 

Meanwhile, another said: “Someone woke up and chose violence.”

A third put: “No she didn’t. #savage.”

How long have Littlejohn and McCabe been together? 

McCabe publically confirmed her relationship with Littlejohn back in 2019 and the pair have now been dating for six years. 

Both players have made more than 60 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and McCabe is currently the captain of the national team.
