Liverpool require a helping hand from Aston Villa to win the 2021/22 Premier League title.

Going into the final day of the season, the Reds trail table-toppers Manchester City by just one point.

City host Villa at the Etihad on Sunday and if Steven Gerrard's side can get a result, Liverpool can swoop in and keep their quadruple dream alive.

Jurgen Klopp's side host Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final match of the campaign, which certainly won't be an easy assignment.

But it's events a few miles down the road in Manchester that the majority of people will be fixated on.

Can Villa really pull off a shock against Pep Guardiola's star-studded outfit? The odds are stacked against them, but you just never know in the Premier League.

The fact Gerrard, arguably Liverpool's greatest ever player, is the manager adds a significant amount to the narrative.

Premier League Final Day: Predictions, Scenarios and More

He's not the only former Red who will be out to ruin City's day either. You also have Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings.

And Liverpool fans may want the latter of those two players to remember when he was treated like a hero by the team and Klopp back in 2020.

After the Merseyside outfit beat Ings' Southampton side 4-0 at Anfield, the striker was the centre of attention and received hugs from all angles.

Injuries seriously hampered Ings' time at Liverpool, so his former teammates were clearly buzzing to see him doing so well elsewhere.

Klopp even waxed lyrical about the Englishman when speaking to the media after the game.

“They have international quality throughout and they play to their maximum. This makes them a dangerous opponent. And of course there is one player in their ranks we know better than most: Mr Danny Ings,” Klopp said.

“For 90-plus minutes today he is our opponent, but other than that he is always our friend at Liverpool. I am not even half-a-per-cent surprised to see what he does this season. Richly deserved, also.

“I would never dream of telling Gareth Southgate what he should be considering, but given he is a top operator and clever coach, I’m sure he’s aware that Danny is someone who could help his country again in the near future.

“Today I hope he has an off day, but other than that his story this season really brings joy to those of us lucky enough to know him.”

Ings is already a very popular guy at Anfield and if he helps down City on Sunday, legendary status at his former club will be secured.
