Twitter users think they’ve spotted the moment Conor McGregor realised he ‘couldn’t hang’ with Dustin Poirier in their third fight.

In a clip that has re-emerged online, Poirier is seen landing a flurry of punches on a retreating McGregor who looked taken aback by the intensity of the attack.

McGregor never recovered from that initial series of blows from Poirier.

The fight was later taken to the canvas where both men fought for superiority, a grappling and wrestling style that more suited Poirier.

As the fight approached the end of the first round and with the tension building the fans were deprived of any further action as McGregor’s left leg gave way under him after his attempted teep kick struck Poirer’s elbow leading to McGregor sustaining fractures of both the tibia and fibula.

Medical staff went to McGregor immediately at the end of the first round and he was unable to continue. Thus, handing Poirier the fight and in so doing gave him a 2-1 advantage in their trilogy series.

McGregor has been very active on social media in recent days, dropping hints that his return to the Octagon is imminent.

The 33-year-old is back in training with a new bulked up physique, opening the possibility of him fighting at a range of divisions from lightweight to middleweight.

His recent MMA record of only one win in his last four fights is not good, but the draw of Conor McGregor is so strong that fighters are happy to take the fight as he is still the biggest money fight in the UFC.
