When it comes to advice in the Octagon, Khabib Nurmagomedov isn’t a bad mentor. Regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists in the history of the sport, The Eagle went undefeated during his career. He went 29-0 before quitting after UFC 254 and has been retired for just short of two years now since the death of his father. But Khabib is just simply infatuated with the sport. Leaked footage shows him providing advice to former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo and current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman. The trio were found in the cage for the upcoming event in Miami. They discussed the most effective ways of tackling your opponent on the ground and suggested using the same techniques in order to combat Charles Oliveira. Khabib constantly reiterated the importance of using ‘hips’ during a takedown and gripping the opponent with the legs instead of a hugging motion as you can still land punches. In the leaked footage, Khabib said, “You don’t need distance. You Olympic champion. How many Olympic champion freestyle wrestling you see in your life?

“If you use your hips, takedown, after you use your hips and make him lift yourself, okay, he is going to tire… grip him with your legs and like horse, you know how to ride a horse?

"Like with legs and your arms, punch.”

The former lightweight took over the rank of coach passed down by his father, started up his own organisation and pushed for MMA to be included in the Olympic Games.

He revealed that it was easier to sort an issue in the ring as a fighter instead of a spectator outside of it. On top of that, the limited time in between rounds restricts the amount of information that can be transferred to the fighter.

He said: "Of course, I feel different because when I was fighting by myself, I can fix anything inside the cage.

“But, you know, it's like when you're outside and your close friend or brother inside the cage, you know, and you just have to talk, you know, you cannot do nothing. It's like a little bit hard, you know."
