The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga is finally over.

For months, it looked as if the French superstar would be joining Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

But in a dramatic turn of events on Saturday, news came in that Mbappe would in fact be extending his stay with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old forward has signed one of the most lucrative contracts in sporting history, which was officially announced just before the team's final Ligue 1 match of the season at home to Metz.

Mbappe then went on to score a hat-trick in a resounding 5-0 victory for PSG, a result which saw Metz relegated to the second-tier.

It was certainly a party atmosphere at the Parc Des Princes on Saturday evening, with Mbappe's extension the most positive thing to happen to the club all season.

Yes, even better than winning the Ligue 1 title.

For Real Madrid, news of Mbappe's decision to remain in Paris is a bitter pill to swallow, particularly after they abandoned their pursuit of Erling Haaland in order to focus solely on him.

But Los Blancos will eventually switch their attention to another superstar name and it's not like the current squad isn't already littered with some of the best young footballers on the planet.

Mbappe also made sure to end negotiations with the Spanish club in a classy manner, if the 'leaked' WhatsApp message he sent to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez informing him of his decision is indeed 100% accurate.

"Mr Florentino, I inform you that I have decided to stay at PSG," Mbappe started by saying according to El Chiringuito, per A Bola.

"I want to thank you for the opportunity he gave me to play for Real Madrid, the club I've been a fan of since I was little. I hope you are understanding with my decision and I wish you the best of luck in the Champions League final."

Fair play, Kylian.

Most other footballers would have opted to move to the Santiago Bernabeu, but Mbappe has decided to remain in Paris, where he'll try and help the club win the Champions League for the very first time.

Just imagine the scenes if they draw Real Madrid in Europe's top-tier competition again next season...
