Liverpool went into the final day of the season needing nothing less than a win if they were to have any hope of winning the Premier League title on the final day.

However, they suffered the worst possible start as Wolves pounced on a loose piece of defending inside the opening three minutes to stun Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's mentality monsters showed their class however to come roaring back into the game and had restored parity in next to no time.

After Luis Diaz produced a few dangerous forays down the left, it was the ever-reliable Sadio Mane who would extract the biggest sigh of relief as he netted mid-way through the half.

While it was Mane who put the cherry on the cake, almost all of the credit for the goal deserves to go to a certain Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard's magical assist played Mane clean through and it was a quite gorgeous moment in it's simplicity.

It was nothing more than a flick through the legs from Thiago but it was the beautiful game at its zenith. You can check out the incredible moment in the clip below:

Astonishing - the man must have eyes in the back of his head.

Mane was only more than happy to oblige but may consider himself slightly lucky having scuffed his finish into the ground and bouncing it over an onrushing Jose Sa.

Then, as if the famous old stadium wasn't bouncing enough, news began to filter through of a goal at Manchester City with Aston Villa grabbing a shock lead.

The noise levels went clean through the roof as the Anfield faithful began to believe a miracle could be on the cards.

Steven Gerrard's name drifted down from the terraces as a riot of noise engulfed the stadium.

That, , however, seemed to have a negative effect on the players with the game descending into a rather frantic, and nerve-jangling end-to-end slug-fest.

At the time of writing, the score remains 1-1 at Anfield with City still trailing Villa in Manchester.
