The Spanish Grand Prix certainly threw up some headlines on Sunday, whilst we also have a new leader in the Drivers' championship.

Blistering heat in Barcelona set us up for quite an intriguing Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc dropping out from the lead and retiring and Max Verstappen eventually taking victory after Sergio Perez was told to let him through if he caught up.

Time, then, to take a look at the winners and losers from the weekend in Spain...

Winner - Max Verstappen

Verstappen is a clear winner this weekend, and not only because he was on the top step of the podium.

He battled his way back from a mistake that dropped him to fourth and ended up closing in on Sergio Perez with fresher tyres before the Mexican let him through.

That, combined with Charles Leclerc not scoring any points this weekend made for a very good weekend for the Dutchman.

Loser - Charles Leclerc

As mentioned, Leclerc had a tough weekend with him cruelly denied a victory that was looking rather likely at one point.

He came into the weekend looking to stop Verstappen's run of wins and was well on course to do so, leading away from pole having topped every session over the weekend.

The Monegasque will look to regroup quickly, then, with his home race coming up this weekend.

Winner - Mercedes

Mercedes appear to be finally on the road to recovery.

The Silver Arrows brought upgrades to the Spanish Grand Prix with the hope that they would see their bouncing fixed and, though not totally gone, they have made big strides.

George Russell battled well with the Red Bulls for a long time whilst Lewis Hamilton surged through the field after a first lap incident with Kevin Magnussen - things are looking better for Mercedes.

Loser - Sergio Perez

Perez will feel as though he could have won the race yesterday.

The Mexican battled his way into the lead but tyre strategy meant that he was a sitting duck by the time Verstappen had caught up to him in the final stages.

Some cries of team orders were made - which he has since said was not the case - but it nevertheless was a tough weekend for Sergio.
