Wolves fans poked fun at Liverpool with Premier League chant as quadruple dreams crumbled

It was a heartbreaking afternoon for Liverpool on Sunday as they came within minutes of winning the Premier League title.

On one of the English top flight’s most dramatic afternoons, the Reds fought back from an early shock against Wolves and sat on the brink of an unexpected title win after Manchester City left the door ajar.

City, however, showed why they are a champion team as they then slammed said door firmly and mercilessly shut by completing a truly astounding comeback.

All looked lost for City after Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa tore up the script to go two goals ahead midway through the second half.

There was genuine belief inside Anfield that something miraculous could be on the cards as they desperately urged their men forward in pursuit of a winner.

All had changed in the space of just a few chaotic minutes, however, as, having come from the bench, Ilkay Gundogan scored twice to send City fans into raptures.

Complimented by a pin-point strike from Rodri, Gundogan’s brace was enough to see City reel Villa in and then take the lead on an incredible day.

Back at Anfield, the news went down like a lead balloon, sucking the life out of stadium that had, only minutes earlier, felt the title was within touching distance.

Even when Liverpool found the goals they needed, the famous old stadium just couldn’t bring itself to celebrate.

That doesn’t mean that there was pin-drop silence inside Anfield, though, with Wolves fans well and truly making the most of Liverpool’s misfortune.

While it might not be a song that rings out very often on the red half of Merseyside, the famous ‘Now you’re going to believe us’ is a favourite among Kopites when they do get to sing it.

Sensing an opportunity to inflict maximum pain, Wolves fans began to sing it, but with one slight tweak, which you can see in the clip below:

‘You NEARLY won the league’.

While it might leave a sour taste in the mouths of Liverpool fans, you simply can’t deny it’s a quality bit of banter from the Wolves travelling faithful.

The clip itself has seemingly gone down a treat with fans from all walks who are revelling in the fact that Liverpool’s quadruple dreams have come crashing down.
