Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek is in unstoppable form right now and she is certainly living up to her new world number one status. So much so that she has even been branded "the new Ashleigh Barty" on the WTA Tour by fellow player Bianca Andreescu. The Canadian faced the 20-year-old star at the Italian Open earlier this month and despite putting in a strong first set performance, she ultimately struggled to keep ÅšwiÄ…tek at bay.The Polish trailblazer went on to win the tournament, marking her fifth consecutive title victory this year and eighth in her career overall. After dominating in the Qatar Open back in February, ÅšwiÄ…tek has been unstoppable. She went on to triumph at Indian Wells the following month before winning the elusive 'Sunshine Double' after a perfect run to the Miami Open title. ÅšwiÄ…tek is just the fourth woman in history to win these two titles in the same year. The 20-year-old stormed to more success with wins in Stuttgart and Rome, setting her up nicely to challenge at Roland Garros this week.Andreescu, who will face Belgium's Ysaline Bonaventure in the first round of the French Open, has admitted that ÅšwiÄ…tek's astonishing run of form has both impressed and inspired her."She's definitely setting a high precedent right now," the former US Open champion said at the weekend. "For me at least it's very motivating. She's like the new Ashleigh Barty of the tour, because Ashleigh was winning a lot, as well. "It's very motivating. I'm very impressed with how she's doing."

Świątek rose to the number one spot after Barty's shock retirement in March. The Aussie icon called time on her career after winning her first Australian Open — a poignant last hurrah for an incredible player at the top of her game.

Following Barty's retirement, ÅšwiÄ…tek assumed the number one spot and has more than stepped up to her new status. She is currently on a 28-game winning streak and will be looking to extend her dominance into her fourth French Open campaign.

It was at Roland Garros in 2020 where the Pole won her first Grand Slam title, so she is no amateur when it comes to the famous red clay surface.
