Liverpool's Mohamed Salah was devastated after fan told him score at Man City

Mohamed Salah goal

There was heartbreak aplenty at Anfield yet again yesterday as Liverpool came within a single point of winning the Premier League title.

Liverpool fans could only listen on in horror as fierce rivals Manchester City produced an astonishing comeback against Aston Villa to clinch domestic glory in the most dramatic fashion.

The Anfield faithful were beginning to believe that a miracle was on the cards, especially when old boy Philippe Coutinho put Villa 2-0 midway through the second-half at the Etihad.

The atmosphere was slowly beginning to build inside the the famous old stadium as they roared their men forward in search of a goal that could potentially win the lot.

By the time that goal came, however, the title race had been flipped completely on its head thanks to a chaotic five minute-spell in Manchester.

Inspired by the ever-reliable Ilkay Gundogan, City smashed three goals passed a shell-shocked Villa to render events at Anfield null and void.

It seems that news hadn’t quite filtered down to the Liverpool players amid the melee of drama though so, when Mohamed Salah did score, he wheeled off celebrating what he thought was a crucial goal.

Unfortunately, as the Liverpool stars celebrated in the corner, one particular fan took it upon himself to relay the devastating news that City were in front.

Check out the exchange in the tweets below:

You can see the moment all the joy is sucked clean out of Salah as he realises his goal may be entirely meaningless.

Despite the sneaky strike at the back-post pulling him level with the Son Heung-Min in the race for the Golden Boot, Salah did little to hide his devastation at the news the fan gave him

To his credit, he quickly composed himself, refusing to give up hope that Villa could go once more and force an equaliser.

Sadly for Salah and co, it just wasn’t meant to be as City held out to earn their fourth title in just five years.
