Manchester City are the 2021/22 Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola’s side secured English football’s top prize on the final day of the season, although it certainly wasn’t an easy task.
In the 75th minute of their match against Aston Villa, City were 2-0 down and looked on course to bottle the league title.
But three goals in space of five minutes, two from Ilkay Gundogan and one from Rodri, turned the game completely on its head.
Then in the immediate aftermath of what was an epic Premier League final day, legendary musician Liam Gallagher – who is an avid City fan – decided to call out Jamie Carragher on Twitter.
But the Oasis frontman was on the receiving end of a rather savage reply from Carragher, who was on Sky Sports commentary duty for Liverpool’s match.
Carragher’s savage reply
Carragher came out swinging.
That wasn’t the end of the scenes over on Twitter, though.
A few minutes after Carragher uploaded his reply, Specsavers chimed in with a message of their own and it too went viral on the social media platform.
Like his mate Steven Gerrard, Carragher never did get his hands on the Premier League trophy as a player.
However, he did win the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, something City are yet to achieve in their history.
Guardiola’s men looked set to reach the final of the European competition this season, but were then left shell shocked by the most incredible of semi-final comebacks from Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
After the acquisition of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, the onus will be on Guardiola to finally deliver the Champions League trophy in 2022/23.
Remember, he’s not won it since 2011 and has also never managed to do it without a prime Lionel Messi…
