Newcastle United ‘would definitely be interested’ in signing Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma if he becomes available, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Magpies could be set for an intriguing summer under their new extremely wealthy owners, who are expected to sanction the signings of several exciting stars.

What is the latest news involving Danjuma?

According to the print version of the Daily Mail (via HITC), Newcastle are interested in bringing Danjuma back to English shores just 12 months after he departed Bournemouth for La Liga.

The report claims that Premier League giants Liverpool are also keeping close tabs on the Netherlands international’s situation, who is said to have a price tag of around £40 million.

A switch to St. James’ Park would see Danjuma be reunited with Eddie Howe after the manager signed him for Bournemouth from Club Brugge in 2019 before going on to feature 15 times under his tutelage.

Danjuma was unable to prevent the Cherries from suffering relegation from the Premier League in his maiden campaign for the south coast club, though, leading to Howe’s exit.

However, the flying winger has revived his career over the last couple of seasons, while Howe has restored his reputation at Newcastle, and the duo could form a formidable partnership in the North East.

What has O’Rourke said about Danjuma?

Asked whether Danjuma could be a Premier League star under Howe at Newcastle in an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “He's got the potential.

“He's probably gone to Villarreal and surprised a lot of people who thought he struggled at Bournemouth, but he's really impressed, and he's now a regular in the Netherlands team as well.

“He does have a buyout clause in his contract, which is £40 million-plus, so that might again be too expensive for Newcastle in this window if their budget is not as big as many people are expecting.

“But I think Eddie Howe knows all about Danjuma, so he's definitely somebody that he'll be well aware of, and if he becomes available, I'm sure Newcastle would definitely be interested.”

How good is Danjuma?

Danjuma enjoyed a productive campaign for Villarreal, bagging 16 goals and providing a further four assists to his teammates in 34 appearances across all competitions.

The 25-year-old played a pivotal role in the Yellow Submarine’s run to the Champions League semi-finals, finding the back of the net on six occasions, scoring crucial strikes against Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Securing a reunion with Danjuma could significantly improve the options available to Howe at Newcastle, therefore, allowing the English tactician to continue his impressive progress at the club.
