Manchester United have come to the end of an incredibly disappointing season but with Erik ten Hag taking the helm, a new era is just around the corner at Old Trafford.
The outgoing Ajax boss will no doubt be looking to put his stamp on the Red Devils by bringing in fresh faces during the summer. Dean Jones provides GIVEMESPORT with a must-read guide to United’s transfer window.
Where could Manchester United strengthen?
We have all seen the flaws in this team and their priority is to sign a centre back, midfielder and centre forward. More will be needed, depending on how many players depart, and it will not be a surprise to see United also sign a right back and second midfielder.
Ralf Rangnick has hinted that United believe they need up to ten new players but sources close to the situation expect that to happen over two or three transfer windows, rather than one.
Who could Manchester United sign?
The number of Dutch-connected names being linked with United is mind-blowing. So far Ten Hag has been rumoured to be signing Ajax players Jurrien Timber, Lisandro Martinez, Dusan Tadic, Antony and Sebastien Haller, as well as Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare, Tyrell Malacia of Feyenoord and Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn.
Of course, he is not about to land in Manchester and turn it into AFC Netherlands so we will have to see which of the links turn out to be true.
Plenty of other names are being linked in all positions and intriguing ones to look out for are Pau Torres of Villarreal, Wolves’ Ruben Neves and Darwin Nunez from Benfica. RB Leipzig are a club with talent that United are very interested in, with defender Josko Gvardiol, midfielders Konrad Laimer and Amadou Haidara, and forward Christopher Nkunku all linked.

Manchester United’s dream signing this summer?
Declan Rice. United need a leader, a midfielder, some inspiration. The West Ham United man possesses every trait they could wish for.
There is one thing that does not suit United though: his price-tag. There is no chance United cough up £150million to sign the England international so United will probably have to find someone similar that is realistically priced.
Which is a bit of a shame for United fans – because he really could be perfect for them right now.
Who’s leaving Old Trafford?
Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant have contracts that will expire while Nemanja Matic has made it clear he is also leaving at the end of the season. Checks will be made on the likes of Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe and Andreas Pereira in the summer.
Expect departures for Eric Bailly and Sir Alex Ferguson signing Phil Jones, while there is uncertainty around how £200,000-a-week man Marcus Rashford will fit in to revive his career under Ten Hag.
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to see out the final year of his deal.
Manchester United’s biggest challenge this summer?
Getting a new core in place. United’s foundations are in tatters and Ten Hag needs to find characters with the right level of talent that can lift the side.
At the heart of this current team it has been clear to see they are easy to overwhelm and that’s why those two crucial positions of centre back and centre midfield need fixing as a matter of urgency.
