George Russell’s Top 5 F1 Moments

With such a great a career so far, the Mercedes driver has made good strides and we have a look at his top five F1 moments.

  • Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Junior Driver Programme - In early 2017 Russell made his debut into F1 by joining the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport as the junior driver. In 2019 he signed for his first F1 team as a Williams driver. The young driver ended the season in 20th place, making him the only driver with no points for the season.
  • Debut in the Mercedes F1 car - In 2020, despite finishing 18th in the championship, Russell had the opportunity to drive the Mercedes F1 car due to Lewis Hamilton’s absence. This debut at the Sakhir Grand Prix saw him finishing in 9th place. He showed his talent and gave us a glimpse of what we would experience if he were to fully drive the Mercedes.

  • British Grand Prix 2021 - The British driver managed to put his car in Q3 for the British Grand Prix in Silverstone 2021, this was hugely impressive as this showed that he has a lot of potential and his popularity grew.
  • Takes P4 in Imola - The 2022 season hasn’t been the best for the Mercedes team but it surely has been fairly great for Russell. During the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this year, he started at P11 where he had an excellent start and moved up five places, putting him ahead of Valtteri Bottas. In lap 54, we saw the Brit capitalise on Charles Leclerc’s mistake and he moved himself to P4 and collected 12 points.
  • Takes P3 in the Spanish Grand Prix - The 24-year-old earned himself his second podium finish this season on Sunday. He finished at P3 and with 15 points after giving Red Bull and Ferrari a run for their money. We can safely say that there's a lot more to expect from Russell.

Russell's performance at Williams was so great that it convinced Mercedes to sign him up and pair him with one of the greats, Lewis Hamilton. The 2022 season and his stint with Mercedes should be one to enjoy. Check out this season schedule here so that you don’t miss out.
