Manchester United may have to fork out as much as £100million in order to welcome 'superstar' Victor Osimhen to Old Trafford this summer, according to journalist Conor Clancy.

The Red Devils are under new leadership, with Erik ten Hag officially taking over as the club's new manager after the season's climax at the weekend, and it appears a move for Napoli frontman Osimhen could be on the cards.

What's the latest news involving Osimhen?

Osimhen only joined Napoli in a big-money deal less than two years ago, but it appears a move away from the Serie A side may be in the offing as the summer transfer window approaches.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in luring the striker to the Premier League.

La Repubblica have revealed Arsenal have had a £77million bid pushed back by Napoli amid additional interest from AC Milan.

The Gunners' proposal falls short of what Manchester United offered last month, when a bid worth in the region of £85.7million was tabled.

Napoli are in the driving seat when it comes to negotiations as Osimhen's £112,000-per-week contract still has more than three years to run.

What has Conor Clancy said about Osimhen?

Clancy rates Osimhen highly and believes Manchester United's owners - the Glazers - will have to shatter their club-record transfer fee in order to tempt Napoli into selling their prised asset.

The Serie A journalist feels the 23-year-old could be sold this summer, but only if his current employers' financial expectations are met.

Clancy told GIVEMESPORT: "I think he's the next £100million sale from Serie A, whether it's this summer or next summer.

"He's not going to go cheap. Napoli signed him for £70million and that was very much with a view to selling him for more than that.

"A £10million profit on a player like Osimhen is not enough. He's a superstar."

Why is Osimhen of interest to Man United?

Cristiano Ronaldo finished this season as Manchester United's top goalscorer, having found the back of the net on 24 occasions.

While Osimhen did not beat that total, after racking up 18 goals, he showed he is capable of bringing the best out of his team-mates and presenting them with opportunities by registering six assists.

Despite being in the early stages of his career, Osimhen has already got his name on the scoresheet 66 times at club level and fired home 10 times in 21 international outings for Nigeria, so it is clear he is a huge talent.
