Anthony Joshua has revealed that he once put in a bid for the famous memory stick that Wladimir Klitschko declared would help him defeat the Brit in their 2017 showdown.

Back in April 2017, Anthony Joshua squared off against Wladimir Klitschko in front of a capacity crowd at Wembley Stadium. The two men battled it out over the IBF, WBA and IBO heavyweight titles in what many still call one of the greatest heavyweight boxing fights of all-time - and certainly of this era.

Joshua wound up winning via TKO in the eleventh round but in the lead-up to the contest, Klitschko showed off a USB stick at their press conference and indicated that it would be the key to him getting the win over AJ.

Alas, it wasn’t quite meant to be, but he did go on to sell the stick for £160,000 with the proceeds going to charity.

As it turns out, Joshua put in a bid of his own, but as he told Oxford Union, it was a bit off the mark in terms of valuation.

“[Wladimir Klitschko] said ‘I have a memory stick sewn into my gown which is going to break down how I will defeat Anthony Joshua’, along with his prediction,” Joshua said.

“In 2014 I went to help him prepare for a fight and they record the training sessions. In 2017 I fought Wladimir Klitschko.

“After the fight I sent the invoice and it cleared. So I rang my guys and was like ‘Yeah I want to put a bid in for this stick, I am ready, let’s call it £5,000’.

“That is a lot of money. But I think it sold for like £200,000 and I was a long way off the mark that it needed to take to win the auction.”

Getting back on the horse

Following his loss at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk last September, Anthony Joshua had to go back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong.

Now, eight months later, he’s gearing up for a mammoth rematch with the Ukrainian this summer.

If he wins, there’s every chance we could see the long-awaited Joshua/Fury superfight fans have been waiting years for.
