Aston Villa may struggle to keep John McGinn at Villa Park amid interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Midlands club finished the Premier League season in 14th place and it seems McGinn could have already made his final appearance for the club.

What's the latest news involving McGinn?

According to the Telegraph, McGinn has been ear-marked as one of Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte's top targets.

The report suggests the 44-cap Scotland international is among the most coveted midfielders in the top flight and Spurs are keen to win the race for his signature.

Interest should not come as a surprise after McGinn registered three goals and four assists in 36 appearances this season.

However, Villa are in a strong negotiating position and not in an immediate rush to sell the 27-year-old as his £70,000-per-week contract still has just over three years to run.

Tottenham have not been McGinn's only admirer as Manchester United were also mulling over whether to stump up a big-money bid during the January transfer window before deciding against heading to the Midlands with a proposal.

What has Dean Jones said about McGinn?

Jones believes Villa could find it difficult as they attempt to fend off interest in McGinn ahead of the summer window opening for business next month.

The transfer insider has backed Tottenham to make enquiries about the central midfielder.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Villa have got a battle on their hands because John McGinn has been so consistent that some really big clubs are now looking his way.

"Tottenham should have a look and at least find out what sort of valuation is on his head."

Would McGinn's departure come as a major blow?

Villa head coach Steven Gerrard may have already bolstered his midfield options by agreeing a deal which will take Boubacar Kamara to the Midlands after his Marseille contract expires next month, but that would come as little consolation to supporters if McGinn is allowed to move onto pastures new.

That is because the Scotsman has become a firm fans' favourite since his move from Hibernian close to four years ago.

McGinn has made 147 appearances for Villa, racking up 16 goals and 23 assists along the way to emphasise how he can be a threat in the attacking third of the pitch.

He has also been one of the first names on the team-sheet since Gerrard's arrival in the dugout last November, with him being selected 26 times following the managerial change.
