Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca has been labelled a big strong brute of a centre-forward’ by Italian football expert Conor Clancy as speculation over his future continues to rumble on.

The 23-year-old is widely expected to depart Sassuolo this summer after putting in several impressive displays for the Serie A outfit.

What is the latest news involving Scamacca?

According to Italian outlet FcInterNews, Arsenal have already ‘knocked on’ Sassuolo’s door over the possibility of signing Scamacca, although Inter are in pole position for his signature.

The report claims that the 6 foot 5 ace has agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri but that his €40 million (£34m) price tag is proving to be a major stumbling block.

Scamacca has since put pen to paper on a new contract with Sassuolo, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed the rather unusual reasons behind his decision to do so.

When speaking to Rio Ferdinand, the reliable reporter revealed that the plan for Scamacca is to loan him out next season and insert a clause that will see the player leave on a permanent transfer.

“Yes, yes, he will leave Sassuolo," Romano told Ferdinand's YouTube podcast. “He extended the contract a few days ago but he will leave Sassuolo.

“It was an extension to allow a potential loan with obligation to buy clause. In January, Borussia Dortmund were asking about him. There are many clubs interested.”

What did Clancy say about Scamacca?

Clancy told GiveMeSport: “He's a big strong brute of a centre-forward. When he hits the ball, he hits it with violence.

“I'm not sold yet because with Genoa he made a lot of headlines, but he was good in October and November and then did nothing. With Sassuolo, he's scored a few goals, but I don't know, I just don't quite see it to the same level that others do.

“Maybe I'm an idiot, and I'm blind, and I'm just not seeing all of the things that he's brilliant at, but for me, he's just the next in a long line of Italian forwards who promise so much but don't quite deliver.”

Would Scamacca be good signing?

Despite his tender age, Scamacca has plied his trade for multiple clubs throughout his nomadic career but enjoyed a real breakout campaign with Sassuolo in 2021/22.

In 38 league and cup appearances, the youngster found the back of the net on 16 occasions, providing one further assist as his side narrowly missed out on a top-half finish.

Producing his best form on a consistent basis will be the next step for Scamacca, and only time will tell if he has the ability to lead the line for a club as ambitious as Arsenal.
