Incoming Leeds man Brenden Aaronson is "very significant" to Jesse Marsch's plans at Elland Road, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Yorkshire giants have been chasing the Salzburg ace since January and are on the verge of making him their first summer signing.

What's the latest news involving Aaronson?

Having missed out on signing the American in the winter, with the Austrian outfit not willing to sell the midfielder before the Champions League knockout stages got underway, Leeds' hopes of signing him this summer were always likely to hinge on whether they stayed in the Premier League.

That looked unlikely heading into their final-day clash at Brentford, but a 2-1 victory, coupled with Burnley's defeat to Newcastle, saw Marsch's side finish above the bottom three.

And just hours after the full time whistle in west London, The Athletic revealed that Leeds have almost got their man, with Aaronson set to become Marsch's first signing since he replaced Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds saw bids of £15m and £20m rejected in January and are now expected to pay Salzburg in the region of £28m.

Aaronson's switch to the Premier League will also see him reunite with Marsch after the pair spent last season together in Austria.

What did Jones say about Aaronson?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Ultimately, if they can get Brenden Aaronson through the door quickly, that's a player who's very, very significant to where Jesse Marsch wants to take this team."

Why are Leeds so desperate to sign Aaronson?

It's really not difficult to see why Leeds are so keen on bringing Aaronson to Elland Road.

In 65 appearances for Salzburg, he has contributed 13 goals and 15 assists, with 16 of those goal involvements coming last season as his side reached the last 16 of the Champions League and won their ninth Bundesliga title on the bounce.

Meanwhile, Leeds' need for a creative player comes after they scored just 42 goals in the top-flight this term, with only the bottom three and Wolves finding the net fewer, especially with Raphinha, who was involved in 30 per cent of the goals, being linked to Barcelona.
