Monaco GP: Kevin Magnussen excited for return to 'crazy' street circuit

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen has said he cannot wait to get back to the streets of Monaco and drive a Formula 1 car around there once again.

The Dane will be driving inside an F1 car in Monte-Carlo this weekend for the first time since 2019 thanks to the covid pandemic and his year away from the sport last season.

Indeed, 2022 has been a campaign where, so far, he appears to have re-fallen in love with the sport, despite his tough Spanish GP weekend last time out, and it’s clear he cannot wait to tackle the unique challenge that the ‘jewel in the F1 crown’ throws up.

Speaking to Haas’ media team ahead of the weekend, the Dane couldn’t hide his excitement to get back to taking on the world-famous circuit at high-speed:

“It’s hard, and that’s why it’s fun, it’s such a crazy place to drive a Formula 1 car. I think we’re very used to it – seeing Formula 1 cars in Monaco – but actually if you think about it, it’s crazy. The streets are so narrow, and the cars are so fast. It’s phenomenal, a lot of fun.”

The Monaco Grand Prix obviously gets some stick as it can be processional on a Sunday given the narrow streets, as K-Mag mentions.

However, there is still nothing quite like seeing a Formula 1 car blasting around some of the most iconic corners in the sport, just inches away from the barriers, and it remains one of the great tests of driving skill and bravery.

For the drivers, you can totally understand why they love the thrill of driving around Monaco, and hopefully the Grand Prix on Sunday can still deliver suitable levels of drama in this intriguing 2022 campaign.
