Andreas Seidl has revealed that McLaren will be investigating just why Daniel Ricciardo struggled more than Lando Norris over the course of the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Aussie started the race inside the top ten in Barcelona and would have felt as though points should have been in the offing.

However, his pace over the duration of the race meant he could only record a P12 finish, and that has left a few scratching their heads at McLaren as to why that was.

Indeed, speaking post-race in Barcelona, Seidl revealed that the team is looking into why the Aussie had issues particularly with the rear of the car, which meant he could not push as much as he would have liked.

“It was a long and challenging Spanish Grand Prix under very hot conditions," said Seidl.

"Lando together with the team maximised everything we had in our hands today and finished in P8. On Daniel’s side unfortunately, after getting into Q3 yesterday, we were struggling a lot with the rear of the car whenever we tried to push more, and went backwards in the race finishing in P12. We have some homework to do over the next couple of days to understand why.”

Norris, of course, did well to finish P8, especially with him suffering with tonsillitis over the weekend, and so that at least got some points on the board for the team.

Ricciardo is continuing to look for consistency in the McLaren, meanwhile, and he'll hope to see a level of it this weekend in Monaco.

He's a former winner around the streets of Monte-Carlo but he also knows how badly things can go with just one moment of misfortune, and so he'll be fully focused on trying to make this year's edition one to remember for the right reasons.
