Newcastle United are "still in the conversation" to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.
Recently, the Tyneside club have been heavily linked with Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and while Jones thinks they see the Englishman as a good fit, he is not ruling out a move for Nunez.

According to The Telegraph, Nunez is one of Newcastle's top targets for the upcoming transfer window, though they fear he will receive more attractive offers from Champions League clubs.
Another sticking point could be the 22-year-old's price, with Record claiming that Benfica are now asking for €100m (£85m) for their player.
The above means Eddie Howe could be forced to turn elsewhere this summer in his bid to improve his frontline.
Calvert-Lewin seems the most likely alternative, as The Telegraph has reported that the Magpies are planning to make a bid for him.

What has Jones said about Nunez, Calvert-Lewin and Newcastle?
Jones is not ruling Newcastle out of the race for Nunez just yet, though he can see the Premier League outfit still being happy with Calvert-Lewin if they do go on to miss out on the Uruguayan.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: "I think they're still in the conversation around that. But Calvert-Lewin, if they were to get someone from the Premier League, then I think Calvert-Lewin is one that they would be pretty confident of fitting in and scoring goals.
"But now that Everton have stayed up, it's a question of what's he got in mind and what's his valuation going to be?"
Who are Newcastle more likely to sign, Nunez or Calvert-Lewin?
Any club looking to sign a new striker this summer would probably snap up Nunez if they could.
He has had a fantastic season at Benfica, scoring 34 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese side.
His compatriot and former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan recently told Breaking the Lines that it would be "spectacular" to see him at Old Trafford.
Given his price tag, though, and interest from Champions League clubs, it would be a surprise if Nunez ended up at St James' Park.
All in all, compared to Calvert-Lewin, who Everton could be forced to sell in the upcoming transfer window because of Financial Fair Play rules, Nunez would quite clearly be the harder deal to pull off.
