Celtic will be desperate to keep Ange Postecoglou beyond this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Australian boss enjoyed a dream first season in Scotland, guiding the Hoops to two trophies and a return to the Champions League.

But Postecoglou's contract expires in the coming weeks, which could see him leave after less than 12 months in Glasgow.

What's the latest news involving Postecoglou?

When Postecoglou arrived from Japanese outfit Yokohama F. Marinos last summer, he was relatively unknown to European football, and wasn't exactly a popular choice given the club had been strongly linked with Eddie Howe.

As a result, the 56-year-old was appointed on a 12 month rolling contract, meaning his current deal runs out later this month.

But having established himself as an extremely popular figure with the Celtic faithful, helped by the fact he won the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership, the Daily Record believe the hierarchy at the club are expected to open talks with him over a new long-term contract.

The report states that Celtic have been 'delighted' with the club's progress under Postecoglou and want to keep him on board.

What did Jones say about Postecoglou?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I guess there's a little bit of a warning from what happened with Steven Gerrard at Rangers. Rangers were pretty devastated by the fact they lost him.

"They did a decent job of replacing him, but your whole plan falls by the wayside, and you have to rebuild. They won't want that. Postecoglou has been so good in terms of recruitment and finding players that are the right fit for this team and this league, so it does seem fitting they should reward him."

Why do Celtic want to keep Postecoglou?

Europe aside, it really was an outstanding first campaign in the dugout for Postecoglou.

When he was appointed, not many gave him a chance of competing for the title, and he ended up achieving that feat and more.

Celtic were on the back of their first trophyless season for more than a decade, but Postecoglou picked up the League Cup crown in his first few months, which ultimately proved the catalyst for the Hoops to go and overtake Rangers in the race for the title.

Not only does he have silverware to show for his efforts, but he's proved a menace in the transfer market, bringing in a host of players from Japanese football, with the majority proving a hit at Celtic Park.

With Celtic now in the Champions League and therefore set for a financial boost, they'll want Postecoglou to be the man to take the club forward.
