While Sunday was a painful one for everyone associated with Liverpool Football Club, itâs hard to believe that any fan was more gutted than Tanya Hanley after Manchester City beat Aston Villa to win the Premier League title.Tanya is the Liverpool fan who refused to cash out on a £100 bet that she made at the start of the season for the Reds to win the quadruple, despite receiving several generous offers.Betfair offered Tanya £22,712 to cash out last Saturday. One day later, she was given a partial cash-out offer of £25k plus a further £100k if Liverpool won the Premier League and Champions League. She also had the option to cash out for £35k prior to kick-off on Sunday.Convinced that Liverpool would end the day as Premier League champions and remain on course to secure a historic quadruple, Tanya refused all offers that came her way.And her brave tactics appeared to be paying off when Aston Villa took a 2-0 lead against Man City at the Etihad Stadium.Tanya was offered £62,371 at half-time and an eye-watering £95,000 with 20 minutes left to play. But it all went badly wrong when Ilkay Gundogan inspired Cityâs dramatic comeback against Steven Gerrardâs Villa, scoring two goals. Rodri also got on the scoresheet during a mad five-minute spell at the Etihad Stadium.Tanya stood to win £367,200 from her first ever bet if Liverpool won the quadruple. But by 6pm on Sunday, she was left empty-handed.MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - MAY 22: Fernandinho of Manchester City prepares to lift the Premier League trophy with team mates Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Aston Villa at Etihad Stadium on May 22, 2022 in Manchester, England. Dimitar Berbatov helps Liverpool fan who refused to cash out
However, thereâs been some positive news for Tanya, thanks to a late intervention from âVAR-Batovâ.
Dimitar Berbatov, the former Manchester United and Tottenham star, said: âOf course I saw the news about Tanya the Liverpool fan and oh my god, she didnât cash out and it went up to £95,000.
âIâve been speaking to people at Betfair and the final cash-out offer in the 92nd minute was £1,250.
âTanya, you didnât cash out but donât worry. Iâm cashing out the final offer for you. Why? Because itâs only fair.
âEnjoy. Have a nice holiday!â
While itâs not quite £95,000, Berbatovâs intervention will certainly soften the blow.
Itâs extremely rare for a punter to receive any sort of payment after losing a bet, so she hasnât done too badly there.
Over a grand is a very tidy little profit on a £100 bet and, like Dimitar says, hopefully Tanya enjoys her holiday.
