Tottenham Hotspur 'definitely want' Christian Eriksen to seal his return to north London and 'held talks' with the Brentford man last week, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Spurs head coach Antonio Conte could look to take advantage of the upcoming summer window, which opens next month, after securing Champions League qualification thanks to finishing the Premier League season in the top four.

What's the latest news involving Eriksen?

As things stand, Eriksen is set to become a free agent in a matter of weeks as he only signed a six-month deal when he joined Brentford on deadline day of the January transfer window.

He went on to make 11 appearances for the Bees, contributing a solitary goal and four assists in the process.

While transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed Brentford will open talks with Eriksen's agent over fresh terms, it is understood that three Premier League rivals have also made an approach.

Tottenham are thought to be among those clubs as it has emerged Conte has sanctioned a move for the central midfielder after making him a predominant figure on his shortlist of targets.

Newcastle United, Everton and West Ham United have previously been linked with a move for Eriksen as well.

What has Dean Jones said about Eriksen?

Jones understands Tottenham are desperate to see Eriksen return to Hotspur Way less than two-and-a-half years after his departure.

The transfer insider believes exploratory discussions have already been held with the 111-cap Denmark international.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "In terms of Christian Eriksen, it is definitely still something that's on their horizon.

"There were new talks last week, just to check where his mindset was at and seeing what Brentford's offer was to him.

"Tottenham definitely want Eriksen back, especially now they have got Champions League football. Usually you say no going back, but with Eriksen that is not how they're thinking."

Would a move for Eriksen make sense?

Eriksen racked up 159 goal contributions in 305 appearances during his first spell with Tottenham, so his return would certainly go down within the fanbase.

The 30-year-old has also played under Conte, who moved into the Spurs hot seat last November, during his time on Inter Milan's books.

Eriksen featured 60 times under the Italian and won the Serie A title, so a reunion with his former boss and employers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be in the offing this summer.
