The Monaco Grand Prix is back for another year, with the jewel in the F1 crown hosting round 7 of the 2022 world championship.

It's one of the most iconic venues in all of motorsport, and it's going to be fascinating watching the new-look Formula 1 cars roaring around the streets of Monte-Carlo.

There has, though, been a change to the event for this year, and that's that the Thursday practice session will now be held on a Friday.

For years, the Monaco Grand Prix weekend has bucked the trend of every other race and held practice on a Thursday, before the usual qualifying on Saturday and race on a Sunday.

It did this because of a bank holiday being marked around the race weekend, but with logistic pressures thanks to the back-to-back races between the Spanish GP and the one this weekend, the decision has been made for the tradition to be abandoned.

It's probably a popular decision among the teams and drivers, too, with them having an opportunity to spend an extra day setting up in the paddock after arriving from Barcelona, whilst also not having to spend the 'rest day' on Friday likely tied up with extra media duties.

Instead, then, we'll see the press conferences and practice on a Friday as we do everywhere else, whilst the rest of the weekend plays out as normal as ever.

It's a break from tradition, then, and we'll have to see whether we ever see Formula 1 action on a Thursday in Monaco ever again - you have to think that this change might well be here to stay.
