Crystal Palace have secured a 10th consecutive season in the top-flight and as a result Patrick Vieira wants the club to now show fresh ambition to see how far they can push on. Dean Jones provides GIVEMESPORT with a must-read guide to the Eagles' summer transfer window.

Where could Crystal Palace strengthen this summer?

Palace have come on leaps and bounds this season and now need to continue the modernisation of the squad. The key is to strengthen the core - a centre-back, central midfielder and forward are all possible signings. But this is not going to be a big building job.

Who could Crystal Palace sign this summer?

One of the most discussed subjects is the need for a new forward, yet insiders say Vieira plans for Jean-Philippe Mateta to lead the line.

Elsewhere the Eagles are looking to make smart acquisitions that may also offer good value and Hudderfield’s Lewis O’Brien, FC Porto’s 124-cap Portugal international Pepe, Rangers’ Joe Aribo, Lens’ Cheick Doucoure and Barcelona starlet Marc Casado have all been checked out.

Links to Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been gaining traction and there is a genuine feeling Palace could look to take him back, provisionally on loan due to the costs involved longer term. United’s Donny Van de Beek has also been explored but he is expected to remain at Old Trafford.

Dream signing for the Eagles?

Conor Gallagher. This is the man Palace will be remaining in touch with over the summer while Chelsea assess whether he can make waves in their own first team. His loan spell was a major success with the Eagles and Vieira has left Gallagher - who Transfermarkt value at £22.5m - in no doubt that he would love to have him back.

Gallagher is thought to have reservations about whether he will truly get a shot with Chelsea, as sources say he wonders if they will sign more tier-one talent rather than give him a chance. Yet Chelsea do intend to include him in their squad at this stage.

Who's leaving Selhurst Park?

Luka Milivojevic is set to be one of the men heading through the exit door. Wilfried Zaha is likely to be linked with several clubs throughout the summer as he sees this as a final window to pursue dreams on the European stage. He is willing to consider offers on the continent, after making 430 appearances in two spells with the Eagles.

There is also the possibility of a move for Christian Benteke. Palace have several players on expiring contracts including Jeffrey Schlupp, Jordan Ayew, Cheikou Kouyate, James Tomkins, Nathaniel Clyne, James McArthur, Martin Kelly and Jaroslaw Jach.

Biggest challenge for Vieira and Freedman this summer?

Taking the club to the next level. Look at what Wolves have been achieving by taking a core stance on how to build a squad and then reaping the rewards - that’s the aim at Crystal Palace. Next season there is a goal to land in the top half of the table and maybe even knock on the door of the top seven.

That will mean landing a couple of game changing players that also fit with the current crop. It’s not easy but Vieira is confident in his vision.
