Leeds United got the job done and will remain in the Premier League next season. Boss Jesse Marsch is now ready for some deep assessment on this squad and finding the right characters to lead them away from further threat at the wrong end of the table. Dean Jones provides GIVEMESPORT with a must-read guide to the Elland Road outfit's summer transfer window.

Where could Leeds strengthen this summer?

Depth is always a factor for clubs at the bottom of the Premier League but we also learned that the quality of this starting XI needs improving at Leeds. Their goals-for record was below average and their goals-against column was the second highest in the top-flight. This is a side that needs a few premium additions.

Who could the Whites sign this summer?

Now that they have survived, Leeds can assess properly how to remould this team.

New signing Brenden Aaronson was the long-term primary target and there will be links with other US-based players, with the name of New York City FC’s Valentin Castellanos one to keep an eye on. He’s a 23-year-old Argentine forward and already boasts 53 career goals for NYCFC.

Hoffenheim’s Florian Grillitsch is a target. The 6 foot 2 Austrian has the versatility to play in defence or midfield and fits the profile Marsch is looking for in terms of mentality and style. There have been suggestions that he will only arrive if Kalvin Phillips leaves, but that may not be the case.

Defender Oscar Mingueza has been linked but while he is not in Barcelona’s plans, it is also thought he would need convincing to join Leeds. Another centre-back linked is Chelsea’s Jake Clarke-Salter.

As an outside option, Takumi Minamino might yet emerge as a potential signing as he is expected to leave Liverpool. Marsch was his boss at RB Salzburg and would know how to exploit his talent.

One dream signing for Leeds this summer?

Rodrigo de Paul.

If Leeds want to bolster the squad with undoubted quality then this man fits the mould and would be an exciting addition that could tempt other players to join the project.

They have been trying to get him since 2020 and while he is part of an Atletico Madrid side that have higher ambitions than Leeds right now, his output dropped this season and he just might fancy a switch.

Victor Orta is an admirer and this could be the sort of statement Leeds look to make before big investment comes at the back end of the year. It won't be easy - but he's worth dreaming about.

Who's leaving Elland Road?

The big question mark is over Raphinha, who is linked with a switch to Barcelona. There is also some doubt over Kalvin Phillips as the club seek a resolution to terms that would see him sign an extended contract. It’s slightly worrying for them that Manchester City are being linked to him, as that is different level from West Ham or Newcastle. Transfermarkt value the England international at £45m.

Leeds are in good shape in terms of expiring contracts, so nothing significant to look out for there.

Biggest challenge for Leeds this summer?

Putting last season behind them. The fans mourned for Marcelo Bielsa and then celebrated their survival under Marsch. It was a rollercoaster ride yet now a plan needs to be put in place to get them on more steady ground. There will be a temptation to spend big - especially with the 49ers investment in the background.
