Newcastle are favourites to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The £100,000 per-week stopper has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and could therefore leave the club when the window reopens for business next month.

What's the latest news involving Henderson?

Having made just three first-team appearances all season, and none in the Premier League, the ex-Sheffield United loanee's future at the club is in serious doubt.

Henderson spoke to Newcastle over a January loan move to St James' Park, but the deal collapsed, and he remained as David De Gea's understudy.

But the Manchester Evening News believe that Henderson has once again held talks over a move to the North East.

The report states that while a permanent transfer to Tyneside hasn't yet been ruled out, the 25-year-old has been in discussions over a season-long loan switch to Eddie Howe's side.

What did O'Rourke say about Henderson?

Having held talks over a move to Newcastle, O'Rourke believes that while the Toon Army could face competition for his signature if he's only allowed to leave on a temporary basis, Howe's team are in pole position for his services at this current moment.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It all depends on whether Manchester United decide to sell him or loan him out. I think if he becomes available for a loan, it'll be more than just Newcastle United who would be interested in Dean Henderson, but right now you would say that Newcastle are favourites to get him."

Would this be a good signing for Newcastle?

Heading into next season, Howe has far bigger priorities than a goalkeeper, but signing the United stopper would be a major step in the right direction.

Not only is Henderson young and English, but he's already proven himself at Premier League level previously, making 49 appearances for Sheffield United and the Red Devils, and would therefore be a solid addition on that front.

With Martin Dubravka ending the season in impressive form, which included four clean sheets in his last six games, Henderson might have a fight on his hands to become number one, but you'd imagine that Howe wouldn't be bringing him in to sit on the bench.
