Everton: £22.5m target 'perfect for Frank Lampard' at Goodison Park

Everton boss Frank Lampard calling for his players to stay focused

Conor Gallagher would be the perfect fit for Everton under Frank Lampard, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 22-year-old’s future is currently uncertain as he prepares to head back to Chelsea after spending the past season on loan at Crystal Palace.

What’s the latest news involving Gallagher?

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that no decision has been made on Gallagher yet, with the midfielder set to start pre-season at Stamford Bridge, although this does not necessarily mean that he won’t be moved on this summer.

As revealed by talkSPORT, Lampard is keen on bringing Gallagher to Goodison Park.

Lampard played for Chelsea for 13 years, before returning for an 18-month stint as manager, and he is hopeful that he can use his connections to get a deal over the line for the £22.5m-rated England international.

What has O’Rourke said about Gallagher potentially joining Everton?

O’Rourke thinks Gallagher going to Everton could be an exciting move as he may take his game to the next level under Lampard.

However, he is unsure whether Chelsea will sanction the switch, or if they will want to keep Gallagher in west London to become a part of their first-team squad next season.

Speaking about Gallagher, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think he’d be perfect for Frank Lampard. Somebody that he could learn off, who was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League’s history, so I think it could be a good fit together, but I’m sure Chelsea might want to keep Conor Gallagher around for next season themselves.”

Could signing Gallagher allow Lampard to change his approach at Everton?

When Lampard first arrived at Everton, he wanted to play a high-pressing game, but this failed to work as his side were picked apart by Tottenham in the league and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

Over time, he had to adapt his style, making his team a little more solid at the back, and it worked as Everton stayed up, although it was not always pretty.

However, Gallagher showed during the 2021/22 season that he has a well-rounded skillset, as he made 2 tackles and 0.9 interceptions per 90 minutes for Palace, as revealed by WhoScored, with his work-rate constantly putting opponents under pressure. He also has quality on the ball, having scored eight goals and provided three assists.

Therefore, if Everton can get a deal over the line for Gallagher, this may allow Lampard to go back to pressing high up the pitch, but this time it could be more effective as this is one of Gallagher’s strengths.

If he can do this, Lampard may finally feel that he is getting his coaching philosophy across to his players, after a turbulent first four months in the job on Merseyside.
