Everton are offering James Tarkowski a lucrative deal to join them this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Tarkowski was recently relegated with Burnley, but looks set to earn himself a move to stay in the Premier League.

What's the latest news involving Tarkowski?

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Turf Moor next month, so it looks likely to be a race to secure his signature.

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa and Everton are both keen on signing the centre-back, and it could come down to the wages that they offer him. Newcastle have also shown an interest in the 6 foot 1 defender, as reported by The Mirror.

Everton are hopeful of edging out their rivals, and have reportedly offered Tarkowski a £90,000-a-week deal to try to tempt him to Goodison Park.

What has Jones said about Everton's pursuit of Tarkowski?

Jones has claimed Everton have put the most eye-catching offer on the table for Tarkowski, and he thinks this could lead to them landing the England international.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “It sounds to me like Everton are blowing other sides out of the water in order to sign Tarkowski. They are offering about 20 grand a week more to him than anyone else is. That’s a bold move but one that looks like it might pay off.”

Are Everton in danger of making the same old mistakes?

Everton looking to bring in a centre-back is hardly a surprise given their problems in defence this season.

The side conceded 66 Premier League goals - only four teams in the division shipped more. The likes of Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey struggled to prove that they were up to the task, whereas Yerry Mina battled with a number of fitness issues.

Therefore, bringing in someone to freshen up the back line is necessary, but giving Tarkowski such a substantial wage packet could be an error.

It is well-documented that the Toffees have spent over £500m on players since Farhad Moshiri arrived at the club in 2016, and they still managed to find themselves in a relegation scrap this term.

Being more sensible with their finances should be a priority at the club right now, but instead they could be set to pay over the odds for Tarkowski, who turns 30 later this year, in a clear sign that they are not learning from their previous mistakes.
