Bellator fighter Alex Polizzi has shown off an X-ray of the broken jaw he suffered at the hands of Yoel Romero.

There are very few fighters out there willing to step into the fire and duke it out with Yoel Romero. The man known as the ‘Soldier of God’ has enjoyed some incredible moments throughout the course of his mixed martial arts career, and that was especially true during his stint with the UFC.

Now, though, he’s over in Bellator, as the 45-year-old attempts to chase down the promotion’s light heavyweight championship.

After coming up short in his debut against Phil Davis, Romero was paired with Melvin Manhoef - only for an injury to force Alex Polizzi into that position instead at Bellator 280.

On that night, Romero was able to beat Polizzi from pillar to post with many wondering whether or not we even needed to see the third round. Alas, the grit and determination of Polizzi ensured that it went ahead, with the veteran sealing a buzzer-beater finish just before the end of the bout.

As per Polizzi on Instagram, it seems as if the beating he received came at a price as he was handed a broken jaw for his efforts.

“Ope! We should probably just heal and drink @milk for a bit. #mma #bellator #chosencrew”

However much that man was paid to get in there and do that, it probably wasn’t enough.

The next step for Romero

There’s no rest for the wicked as Yoel Romero prepares to head back into the cage later this year at Bellator 285 in Dublin. On that night, he’s expected to finally meet Melvin Manhoef in what is being billed as the final fight of Manhoef’s iconic career.

If Romero can get past him, and do so in a convincing fashion, there’s every chance he’ll move to within just one more victory of a shot at the gold.

There are plenty of great fights out there for the Cuban sensation including a showdown with Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson but either way, Scott Coker is slowly but surely starting to get what he paid for.
